Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 large egg yolk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chunks or chips
- 1/2 cup milk chocolate chunks or chips
- Flaky sea salt, for finishing
Instructions
- Brown the butter by cooking it in a saucepan over medium heat until it melts and turns golden.
- Mix the browned butter with the brown and granulated sugars until glossy.
- Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract to the mixture and whisk until smooth.
- Whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt together in a separate bowl, then incorporate into the wet mixture just until combined.
- Fold in the semi-sweet and milk chocolate chunks until evenly distributed.
- Chill the dough in the refrigerator for about 60 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Scoop dough onto the sheets, spacing them apart for even baking.
- Bake for 11 to 14 minutes until the edges are golden and the centers are soft.
- Finish by pressing extra chocolate chunks on top and sprinkle with flaky salt before cooling on a wire rack.
Notes
Use unsalted butter for better control over salt levels. Chilling the dough is crucial for texture.
