Description

A delightful and hearty dish perfect for chilly days, featuring tender beef, rich spices, and a creamy sauce.


Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Beef Chuck (cut into chunks)
  • 2 medium Onions (chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil (for sautéing)
  • 2 tablespoons Sweet Paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Smoked Paprika (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Caraway Seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Marjoram
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper (optional)
  • 4 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato Paste
  • 4 cups Beef Broth
  • 1 cup Dry Red Wine (optional)
  • 1 can Diced Tomatoes
  • 1 cup Bell Peppers (chopped)
  • 2 cups Potatoes (cubed)
  • 1 cup Sour Cream
  • 2 tablespoons All-Purpose Flour
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper
  • 1/4 cup Fresh Parsley (for garnish)
  • optional Noodles or Spätzle (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the ingredients: cut beef, chop onions, peppers, and potatoes, and mince garlic.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large pot. Brown beef in batches for 5-7 minutes, then set aside.
  3. In the same pot, cook onions until soft (3-4 minutes), then add garlic and cook for another minute.
  4. Add sweet paprika, smoked paprika, caraway, marjoram, and cayenne; cook for 1-2 minutes.
  5. Add beef back to the pot along with broth, wine, tomatoes, peppers, and potatoes; stir to combine.
  6. Bring to boil, reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 90-120 minutes until beef is tender.
  7. Combine sour cream and flour; stir into goulash and allow to thicken for 10-15 minutes.
  8. Season with salt and pepper. Garnish with parsley before serving.
  9. Enjoy on its own or serve with noodles or Spätzle.

Notes

Allow flavors to meld, and consider making in advance. Freezes well for up to 3 months.
