Description

A delightful and rich frosting that perfectly complements German chocolate cake.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Begin by combining the sugar, evaporated milk, butter, and egg yolks in a medium saucepan. Stir well to blend the ingredients.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat and continuously stir the mixture to prevent burning.
  3. Continue stirring until the mixture thickens and begins to bubble gently, about 10 minutes.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract, shredded coconut, and chopped pecans until well combined.
  5. Allow the frosting to cool for about 30 minutes before spreading it over your cake.

Notes

If using leftover frosting, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. Let it come to room temperature before using.
